How to Download and Install Cisco ASA Virtual on VMware
Cisco ASA Virtual (ASAv) is a software version of the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) firewall that runs on VMware ESXi servers. It provides advanced security features such as stateful firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, web filtering, and more. In this article, we will show you how to download and install Cisco ASAv on VMware using different methods.
Prerequisites
Before you start, you need to have the following:
A valid Cisco user account to access the software download page.
A VMware ESXi server that meets the system requirements for ASAv. The host CPU must be a server class x86-based Intel or AMD CPU with virtualization extension. The minimum memory requirement for ASAv is 2GB. The disk storage size of ASAv is fixed at 8GB and cannot be changed.
A compatible version of VMware vSphere Client or VMware OVF Tool to deploy the ASAv virtual appliance.
A compatible version of Cisco Adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM) to manage the ASAv configuration. You can use ASDM as a standalone application or as a web-based application.

Deploy ASAv Using VMware vSphere Client
You can deploy ASAv using the VMware vSphere Client, which is a graphical user interface for managing VMware ESXi servers. You can use either the web-based client or the standalone client. The steps are similar for both versions.
Launch the VMware vSphere Client and connect to your ESXi server.
Select File > Deploy OVF Template.
Browse to the location of the ASAv software image file that you downloaded from Cisco.com. The file name should have an .ova extension.
Click Next and follow the wizard to specify the deployment options, such as name, location, disk format, network mapping, and power on settings.
Click Finish to deploy the ASAv virtual appliance on your ESXi server.
Deploy ASAv Using VMware OVF Tool
You can also deploy ASAv using the VMware OVF Tool, which is a command-line utility for importing and exporting virtual machines and virtual appliances. You can download the OVF Tool from https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/ovf/.
Open a command prompt and navigate to the directory where you installed the OVF Tool.
Run the following command to deploy the ASAv software image file that you downloaded from Cisco.com. Replace the parameters with your own values.
```bash
ovftool --acceptAllEulas --name=ASAv --datastore=datastore1 --net:"Management0/0"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/0"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/1"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/2"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/3"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/4"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/5"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/6"="VM Network" --net:"GigabitEthernet0/7"="VM Network" --powerOn asav941.ova vi://username:password@esxi_ip_address
```
