How to mod GTA IV using update.img
If you want to customize your GTA IV experience with new vehicles, weapons, skins and more, you can use a modified update.img file to replace the original one. The update.img file contains the game data that can be modified using various tools and programs. In this article, we will show you how to mod GTA IV using update.img on your PS3 with HAN.
What you need
A physical copy of GTA IV
A PS3 with HAN installed
A PC with PS3Tools by aldostools, TrueAncestor PKG Repacker by JjKkYu and an xploit resigner
A modified update.img file of your choice (such as Major Distribution vXX.XX)
Steps
Download the GTA IV 1.08 Patch PKG from PS3Tools using your game ID (BLES00229 or your equivalent).
Extract the PKG using TrueAncestor PKG Repacker and copy the extracted folder (BLES00229 or your equivalent) to your desktop.
Go to the USRDIR folder inside the extracted folder and replace the original update.img file with your modified one.
Repack the folder into a PKG using TrueAncestor PKG Repacker and sign it with your xploit resigner.
Copy the signed PKG to a USB drive and install it on your PS3 using HAN.
Delete the GTA IV file in the Game Data Utility folder on your PS3 if you have already installed the game.
Start GTA IV and enjoy your mods!
